About MeDuring my 65th year I am going to attempt 65 events, starting on my birthday August 17th and ending on August 16th 2016. Why not! Can’t wait until I’m 70. Most, if not all the events, will involve running with a number or chip attached to me (not on my shoulder – ha ha). The events can be short – 5k, or marathon length. No repeats are allowed so I can’t keep doing the same parkrun week in, week out! They have to be organised events so a recorded time is produced in order to qualify. So far, I have planned various 10k races, Barns Green half marathon, Beachy Head marathon in October and I have a place in the London marathon 2016.
I want to raise money for Crohn’s and Colitis UK. I have been involved with this charity since 2003, ever since my son, Simon, fell suddenly very seriously ill with what was later diagnosed as Crohn’s disease, a condition that affects the digestive system. It turned his life upside down at age 19, and mine too. Since then I have met many people who struggle day in and out with this cruel condition, many unable to work or to start a family. In the UK about 1 in 250 people suffer from either Crohn’s or colitis, yet it is not widely recognised or understood. Please help me to raise awareness and also raise vital funds for research into these conditions. |
About Crohn's & Colitis UK |
Crohn's and Colitis UK is a nationwide charity established in 1979. Our mission is to work with all those affected by inflammatory bowel diseases, in particular Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, to achieve a better quality of life, improve services, and ultimately find a cure. We raise awareness, provide information and support, fund crucial research, and campaign and speak up for change.
With around 30,000 members and 50 local groups throughout the UK, we are here for everyone with IBD and their families, friends, and those involved in their care. |
