Sunday 3rd January. i was looking forward to the Tadworth Ten as I had really enjoyed the race last year. It starts on Epsom Downs racecourse. In fact, the race headquarters were in the Oaks hall of the Duchess Stand, pretty posh compared with what we runners are used to. I arrived early with Carl and Michelle from harriers. I don't know Michelle very well. She works for the police and is just about to start a new job in the police helicopter. It was interesting to her about her work and all the unusual things she has been involved in. I think she is quite a special person.
11.30 am and it was time to go outside into the driving wind and rain to run 10 miles. How much did I want to stay in the warm - a lot! So off we go. There was a very wide variety of running gear worn. Some like me were fully kitted out in hat, gloves, rain proof jacket etc while others were just in running vest and shorts. They tended to be at the front of the race, surprisingly (not).
Over an hour and half later it was all over. We swapped horror stories of wading through fords, slipping in the mud and being stung by horizontal raindrops. The race is two laps of a 5 mile circuit which is an impressive mix of just about every kind of terrain. Well done to the marshals who were remarkably cheerful in the circumstances. Well done to the organisers too. At the end of the race we were given a woolly, yellow hat. You can see us modelling them below. Very appropriate I think! And hurrah 26 done!
