No, I don’t understand that title either – and I wrote it.
Over the weekend of the 7th / 8th I couldn’t fit an event in as we were grandchild sitting. I did manage a visit to Clair parkrun though, where I was tail runner. Lovely to see everyone.
Wednesday 11th November we left for a visit to Gibraltar to see my sister, Barbara, and family for a few days. Despite my sister’s best attempts, she didn’t manage to magic an event for me while I was there. Sophie and grand-daughter, Jessica, came with us. Sophie had decided it was a good idea to run every day in November so we did get out for some very brief runs. Very brief. (See pic on right of Jessica in Gib.)
It was great to see my nephew, Jonathan, Charlotte and the boys. Lots of babies on this holiday. The Gibraltar Literary Festival was on while we were there (what you haven’t heard about it!!) Highlights were Ester Rantzen and Nicholas Parsons (!) and poo we missed Marcus Brigstocke and Miles Jupp who were on after we left. Really enjoyed a talk by Andrew Downie on Guy Burgess the spy. Strange sometimes how something you are not expecting to find interesting turns out to be really engrossing. Just like this blog. Hmm.
So back home on Saturday and trying to absorb the horrendous news from Paris. Our flight was diverted from the North to the South Terminal at Gatwick, but the resulting chaos was managed incredibly well in the circumstances.
Onto race number 15, the Brighton 10k Text from Verity the evening before, very strong winds predicted on Brighton seafront Sunday morning. Scary, also means the race is going to be HARD WORK. And indeed it was. We went down on the train meeting some of the St Francis running crowd. In fact, the race was fine and considering there were nearly 3000 runners, well organised and almost good fun. I managed to finish in under 52 minutes so was quite happy. I found out later that won my age category. Nice bonus. PB for Verity too. After the race, we went to ‘Buddies’, Bryan’s favourite haunt on the seafront for a well deserved latte. Yummy.
