Maureen asked me this morning at our Thursday J and M run ''have you updated your blog yet?' Answer no, so here I am doing just that before event 53 takes place in a few hours time. To be honest, I am not looking forward to this one as it's the club Blackcap Handicap on the Downs. Thunder and lightening are forecast so maybe I won't have to run it!
Back to event 52 - the Ranelagh Harriers Richmond 10k. Now how do you pronounce that R word (no, not Richmond, silly), The race calendar is a bit weird at the moment. or so it seems to me, with plenty of races to choose from one weekend, and then hardly any the following. Slight panic is setting in that I won't complete my 65 by the 16th August, partly because I am committed to Clair parkrun on so many Saturdays. So, the trip to Richmond early on Sunday morning as we had to fit in Fathers' Day celebrations later (not that I'm a father). Dave H came with me again and he kindly drove.
The course is one of those 'fast and flat' ones and takes in part of the Thames Towpath. All very well organised and a mug as a memento (see below) plus Mars bar and banana. The race also counted as the Surrey 10k Championship and the results clearly showed the calibre of the runners taking part. Although we finished in 54 minutes, we were well down the field. I would recommend this race though, good value and a friendly atmosphere.
Then home for a carvery at the Bax Castle pub near Southwater and right next to the Downslink. Great place for children to play and very good food.
