I am of course 'joking'. (See my last post) This was the Eco Friendly Ashtead 10K. Nothing too eco about the entry fee, but everything else was low-key, relaxed but well organised at the same time.
(You might have noticed I have moved out of Sussex into leafy Surrey!)
The run was an out and back course on footpaths and trails across Ashtead Common. All off-road. It was well marshalled with plenty of signage, so no chance of getting lost. At the finish each runner received a wooden medal which doubles as a coaster (see pic above). You could also help yourself to an apple, carrot or 'eco' Jaffa cake. (note to self, no point in getting sarcastic).
I ran with daughter, Sophie, and this was her first 10k since having baby Jessica last January. We finished in 55 mins 30, despite my hesitancy on any dodgy looking sections of uneven terrain. I came 90th and had race number 90. Very satisfying.
Sophie and Andy moved to Ashtead nearly two years ago. It does have a lovely villagey feel. We all went back to theirs for lunch (fish pie for me, pork for everyone else). Quick visit to the park to go on the swings, then back home on a strangely quiet M25.
Barns Green Half Marathon next!
