Monday morning the 4th July a text from John Rix 'Were you injured at Bewl?' Subtext = why so slow? Cheeky!
The Bewl 15 is a very popular race around Bewl reservoir (near Wadhurst on the border between Kent and Sussex) run on a fairly muddy track with a short but hilly road section thrown in. Not an easy run with a great deal of congestion at the start. This race does offer, though, the most 'perks' of any other races I know. There is beer at the finish, cakes, a plentiful goody bag, a tee shirt plus various goodies on the way round. There is music at strategic intervals and children's entertainment at the Race HQ. I could go on - a very long prize list too.
I drove Carl and Kath there and there were quite a few harriers taking part as this race is in the Sussex Grand Prix calendar. Yes I was slow, John, but I decided 15 miles after a throat infection had to be treated with respect. Good fun too when you don't try too hard!

Wednesday July 6th and event 57, the Roundhill Romp organised by Steyning AC and part of the West Sussex Fun Run League. Amanda gave Kath and I a lift. Always good to drive with Amanda as she is used to driving a horse box on country roads, and so is a very safe and experienced driver.
The run is really lovely and offers superb views on top of the Downs - once you have climbed up there, that is!
My problem was running down a steep, wooded section towards the end when I was overtaken by about forty runners. Message to self ' be braver when running downhill'! Finished in just under the hour.
See below the three of us posing Shelagh Robinson style with one leg in front of the other. Modelling career beckons - not.
