By rearranging everyone's lives, (what me selfish?) I managed to get to the Highdown Hike in Worthing on Wednesday evening the 3rd August.
This race is an event in the hotly contested West Sussex Fun Run League and attracts hundreds of club runners. Who said everyone goes on holiday in August - well, maybe they go to Worthing! The race used to be called the Highdown Five but the course now measures 3.6 miles. The new route was an attempt to avoid certain pinch points on the lovely windy, up and down course. Unfortunately, it didn't work as after about half a mile, we runners ground to a halt. Time for a chat, a drink and to appreciate the views. Not really needed over 3 miles, but heigh ho.
i really enjoyed the evening helped by good company on the way home with harriers Amanda, Verity and Rupert.

Sunday 7th August. It was quite difficult to find a race. Verity went off to York to run the city 10k there and kindly invited me too. I thought it would be a good opportunity to visit my old friend, Angela, while I was there. I have known Angela since we met at primary school aged eight, so a long time. Unfortunately, she was going to be away (probably in Worthing, see earlier reference #joke) so I decided to stay at home. Found a British Heart Foundation charity 10k in Victoria Park, East London. Ever-supportive son-in-law Dave offered to come with me.
This run was quite different from other races as the charity, fund raising aspect was paramount. There was lots of music and loads of red tee shirts. I felt I wasn't quite playing the game in my Crohn's and Colitis vest! We set off on the two lap course to whoops and cheers. This run wasn't timed at all. No winners so no losers I guess. Just a clock at the end if you did want to know your time. Finished with a very red face as it really was hot.
Downside to the day was how long it took us to get home. Broken down train somewhere caused delays to all trains going South on Thameslink. Everyone was diverted to Victoria which was bulging at the seams. This was the day before the strike....Oh dear hope things improve for commuters!
I can't believe I have just one event to go. That is going to be Worthing parkrun on Saturday 13th August. All fingers crossed! I don't want to fall at the final hurdle. (Horsey reference due to watching the showjumping at Rio on the telly.)
