Yesterday evening it was blustery, cool and damp on Worthing seafront for the first ever 'Beat the Tide' 10K. Not what you want in August. I don't like to grumble but the tide was going OUT so it wasn't really man v the sea at all. Having said that, the tide was in over the groynes at 7 pm when the race was due to start (worrying). Short delay then we were off splashing along the beach. A mile or so along and we were directed off the beach to run along a nice, safe concrete path. It seems the tide was behaving weirdly last night and the unfortunate organisers had to come up with a last minute Plan B or we were in danger of drowning. Frankly, I didn't mind. Running on sand is very hard work. Then, it was turn round and back the way the way we'd come.
53.54 and I had finished to be greeted by David H. Not a fan of running, it was great that he came with me for the first of the 65. Part of the deal was fish and chips afterwards courtesy of Harry Ramsdens, opposite Worthing Pier.
It was great to see faces I knew. Lots of happy Burgess Hill Runners (they are always happy and smiling - seems that's a condition for joining the club). Laurent and Monica among others too.
The women's race was won by Haywards Heath Harriers own Kat Barrett! A very modest winner too. See Kat with me in the pic.. The race was good fun - and it did stop raining!
