Cold, cough, and chesty feeling meant it was time to be sensible for once and take a break from running.
Happily, there was plenty to do as we planned our fundraiser for what I think will be my 65th event - the Trailwalker Challenge in July. This is a 100k walk / run across the South Downs, to be completed in teams of four and raising money for both Oxfam and the Gurkhas Welfare Trust.. Julie and I have a history here. This will be our fourth attempt and we really want to get under 18 hours. This year we have a great team as Carl and Barry join us, so we hope to be fourth time lucky. Team events are much harder than those done on your own. You have to work with others and go at the pace of the slowest (me?), and, if members of your team drop out, you are expected to link up with another team. Tricky.
We were very lucky when Susie Chan agreed to come to Haywards Heath and give a talk on her running experiences. Susie is the cousin of Sam Ridley, who just happens to be a Haywards Heath Harrier. Very kindly, Sam persuaded her ultra running cousin to help us with our fundraising. The evening went really well. We sold 76 tickets and Susie was was so entertaining, funny and charismatic. It seems the Marathon des Sables is very doable.... Really??
