Sorry, dear readers, but I am a bit late with this post.
Exactly a week ago today we celebrated David's 65th birthday. The action-packed day started with the J and M Thursday group run along the mean streets of Cuckfield. Then, a drive to Horsham where my friend, Margaret Massie-Taylor was exhibiting some of her paintings. Feeling buoyed by birthday bonhomie, David bought two pictures, both very colourful in a Matisse cut-out style. Beautiful.
I have to mention Margaret. She is a former squash champion and keen triathlete. Now in her 86th year, and with two new hips, she is still extraordinarily busy and STILL running (on the beach where she lives in Rustington). There's a role model for you.
Next stop, lunch at The Pass, South Lodge in Lower Beeding. The restaurant was recommended to us by our foodie son-in-law, Andy, who was rooting for chef, Matt Gillan, in the final of the recent Great British Menu. Irony is that when we were there, Matt was working in the kitchen and was happy to talk to customers (see pic below). Not the case when his fans, Andy and Sopphie, visited. Very modest, friendly guy - and the food was wonderful

The day ended with a trip to Cineworld in Crawley to watch the live streaming of Hamlet from the Barbican theatre. Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. Great production with some wonderful acting - and this streaming thing really does work.
Saturday the 17th was a running day but I couldn't fit in an event unfortunately. I started the morning covering Terry's 8am beginner running group and then drove to Lewes to meet another learn to run group led by Siobhan and Bev. It is so good to see people trying running and getting to a stage when they can relax and enjoy it. In the afternoon, I was in Horsham to talk to participants on the Leadership in Running Fitness course, part of my Run England role.
Sunday the 18th, the Bright 10 miler, a brand new race along the seafront in Brighton and Hove. I went down on the train and met some J and M runners, Tony and Lou. The weather was perfect, mild, dry and not much wind. I did enjoy the race which seemed to go very quickly and I finished in 1.22. There were lots of PB's amongst the harriers, including Sarah and Matt, (see below). The organisation was great and fuss free. I would certainly like to run it again next year. Hurrah for Brighton, great for running.
Must have lots of rest this week as event number 13 is the Beachy Head Marathon!
